⌈ CHARACTER SECTION ⌉

Character: Evie Grimhilde
Age: 16
Canon: Disney's Descendants 2
Canon Point: On the way back to Auradon after rescuing Ben

Background: "I like to think I'm fairest of them all."

Personality: Evie is a complex blend of the nature vs. nurture debate. Deep down, she is kind, caring, loyal and generous. All traits that are not only discouraged but smothered on the Isle where she spends the first 16 years of her life. Those sorts of traits could get you maimed or worse, depending on who you've crossed. On the surface, and while she is still living on the Isle, she is vain, shallow, manipulative, and a rampant flirt. Mind, even after leaving the Isle for Auradon Prep, those traits diminish, but never fully vanish. She adjusts the quickest to her new life in Auradon, unabashedly excited to be somewhere so elegant and nice. She'd dreamed of always going there, though at the first it was with the plan to find herself a prince with a huge castle, just like her mother wanted. But there was high appeal in the opportunities only to be found off the isle and she embraced them fastest and hardest.

There is a sense of both insecurity and fear that she continues to harbor. Of all the VKs, she probably has the most loving of the parents, but still she knows her mother doesn't love her. Her mother only wants her to be pretty and find a prince. But even when the Evil Queen pushes Evie to a standard of beauty that the poor child cannot ever seem to measure up to, Evie knows she's not allowed to be the more pretty. Her own mother scares her. And rightfully so, there's no telling if EQ would murder her for being prettier like she tried to do to Snow White. So she's stuck between never fully measuring up to an impossible standard, and being terrified of actually succeeding at it. Time away from the Isle and well away from her mother have helped her grow into more confidence, but the damage is still there. She finds love and family in her friends, and that creates an unshakeable loyalty to them and their new life in Auradon.

While at first Evie behaves just as she's expected to (vapid, shallow, and obsessed with her looks above all else), once she's free of the isle, she discovers that there's more to her. She's very intelligent and great at chemistry. More than just a pretty face. In time, she embraces this aspect of herself, wanting to be more than a vain gold digger. As she grows to accept more in herself, she begins to reach out to help others too. She starts by fixing up her best friend for a first date, and eventually opens her own little business making clothes and doing fashion styling for others to bring out the best in them as well. Appearances are everything to Evie, even after she's made her peace with herself. Too much of her life was spent being hammered about it to let go, but she transforms it into a beautiful act of kindness and generosity to make others feel good about themselves with her business.

She is delightfully charming of her own accord, with or without her flirty nature. That much she really cannot help, it just happens. However, she's not all pure innocent sunshine. She has a feisty streak with a high level of sass that comes out from time to time. She can be manipulative as well, usually using her flirt to get what she wants. Can be. But not always. Rest assured, if you mess with her friends, you won't find her to be a wilting princess. She will fight for and with her friends, because they mean the world to her. And for a girl who grew up not knowing what love was, she's learning quickly. She's willing to return to the isle just to get her best friend back, despite never wanting to set foot there again.

At this point in her life, she's also becoming very aware how selfish she's actually been. Life in Auradon has been good for her and more or less she's been eating it up as the perfect paradise. Meanwhile, friends in her old life have been left behind in that hellhole prison isle. It grieves her deeply to know that Dizzy's been holding onto their shared life together, and yet she's blissfully moved on leaving behind so many others who just want out.

She is still crazy obsessed with clothes and makeup and beauty routines, make no mistake. And she can easily get distracted from important life or death situations (like rescuing Ben from having to walk the plank) by talking new hair colors. However, there is far more to her than just being "fairest of them all". She's beautiful, gorgeous really, but it's her heart that truly shines. But... it can't hurt to have a pretty dress to go with that, now can it?

Abilities:

"Princessing" It Up: At risk of being a stereotype, Evie is admittedly good at what is considered the "traditional" princess traits. Cooking, cleaning, sewing... breaking out into a stirring song and dance number on the fly. She can cook, but her baking needs work. She's interested it it since it's a form of chemistry, but needs more practical application in it first.

Fashion Design: Evie makes all her own clothes. And clothes for her friends. She has a keen eye for what suits the people around her and designs both casual- and formalwear for them. She's so adept at it, that she's rapidly saving enough money to buy herself a castle.

Beauty Buff: It might seem silly, but Evie is also an expert make-up artist. She makes a comment that she learned how to apply blush before she could talk. It's probably true.

Chemistry: Evie is far more than a pretty face. She's actually sharp as a tack and has a love for chemistry. She's seen to work on cooking up smoke bombs and beauty products, and has a hand in mixing chemicals to make glow-in-the-dark clothing in supplemental material. When someone suggests just chopping onions for a love potion needing tears, she's got a long-winded scientific explanation for why tears of sadness are different from onion weeping.

Alignment: Aiada. While Evie is largely missing the rampant envy her mother carries, she absolutely wants to be appreciated and recognized for being the fairest. Fortunately her good heart leads her to also appreciate the good and noble traits in others, not to mention their appearance.
